A dance performance in collaboration with the 3rd year students of media design to premier in Zurich, november 2009 at the Hochschule de Kunste, Zurich.

Students will be responsible for a live, multi screen projection to the third movement of Bernd Aloys Zimmermann's Alagoana, coreography by Maria Terpugova. The project is part of the course in Touch Designer.

"The whole music takes place in a moment of deep crisis during the mental reconstruction after World War II. The composer, as many other artists during the 50s in Europe, was searching for a new possibility of expression through Music and Dance. While the art of classical ballet seemed to be a step further to develop the art form, the confrontation with other dance forms like Modern dance and Jazz dance was necessary to create a new language, translating the inner movements of hope, insecurity, desperation and anxiety; emotional effects, which were produced by the western society. The moment between a new and open society and the fear of future, mixed with a massive guilt complex and the attempt to forget the horrible past, produced a contradictory situation, which were reflected in musical composition through confrontation of different style idioms: Exotic musical characters like the Rumba and Bolero meet Boogie Woogie elements in impressionistic sound costumes. In mixing these styles, musical themes became unreal in their translation and responding to dance language. They were caught in a ‘Purgatorio’. They were all looking for a new body …"
