machiel veltkamp
Machiel Veltkamp was born on 29 December 1978 in Den Helder, Netherlands. Since 1996 he has studied, worked and lived in Utrecht. He studied for three years scenography at the Theatre Faculty of the Utrecht school of Arts. Afterwards which he switched to Design for Virtual Theatre and Games at the Theatre Faculty of the Utrecht school of Arts and graduated there in 2003 as Bachelor in Art and Technology. His personal interests lies in the possibilities of the use of new media in theatre and to investigate the different relations a user or audience can experience through the use of new media. The relation of a user or audience with it's surroundings through design and new media elements have always triggered Machiel's enthusiasm. Machiel also gets his inspiration from daily life seeing people walking around him and wondering what kind stories they have in they're head waiting to be told. After his graduation Machiel Veltkamp became one of the four initiators of Stichting z25.org, which was founded in 2003. The goal of the foundation formulated itself during their study at the theatre faculty. The founders realized the great possibilities when computer programming and computer games semantics would mix with traditional storytelling and that this could result in new forms of theatre, performances or digital play. To investigate these possibilities further, they decided after they graduated to create an organization that would initiate and support projects in which digital media is combined with traditional narrative art forms. From 2003 until now Machiel Veltkamp has been working on several projects for z25.org. Besides his work for z25.org Machiel Veltkamp also works as a part-time theatre technician for various theatres in Utrecht.
